Technical support and development team for LXCAT project

The Plasma Data Exchange Project is a community-based project which was initiated as a result of a public discussion held at the 2010 Gaseous Electronics Conference (GEC), a leading international meeting for the Low-Temperature Plasma community. This project aims to address, at least in part, the well-recognized needs for the community to organize the means of collecting, evaluating and sharing data both for modeling and for interpretation of experiments. At the heart of the Plasma Data Exchange Project is the LXCat platform (www.lxcat.net), an open-access website for collecting, displaying, and downloading electron and ion scattering cross sections, swarm parameters, reaction rates, energy distribution functions, etc. and other data relevant for modeling low temperature plasmas.

LXCat is an informal, community-wide project based on a concept of rotation of members of the LXCat core team. In this context, we are presently looking for volunteers for the roles of technical team coordinator and frontend/backend developers. The members of the technical support and development team are expected to contribute several weeks per year for nominally 3 to 5 years.

The specific responsibilities include continuing support, maintenance and development of the LXCat platform, in coordination with the LXCat team and the scientific advisory board, as well as contributing to the development strategy at all stages, from conception to deployment.

Expertise desired

  • Knowledge of key Internet services (web, dns, email).
  • Experience in web development (html, php, JavaScript), script languages (python, java), database (MySQL) and server administration (Apache).
  • Knowledge of content management software (WordPress, Joomla,  Drupal) would be a great asset.
  • Experience in plasma physics, plasma chemistry, or related fields.
  • Desire to work in a multinational network environment.
